The conference theme: "Bridging the gap between Japanese language and Japanese studies"

We invite proposals for papers that reflect the conference theme and others that fall under various Japanese studies disciplines such as:

  • Architecture
  • Art, art history
  • Communication studies
  • Economics and business
  • Education
  • History
  • Language and linguistics
  • Language education
  • Literature, theatre, film studies
  • Politics and international relations
  • Science and technology
  • Second language acquisition
  • Society and culture
  • Others

There are three ways to present your papers.

1) Panel presentation

A panel is a 1.5 hour session, including time for questions, usually consisting of 3 x 30-minute papers integrated under a panel topic.

On-line submission:

  • A panel topic and brief description (100 words)
  • Abstracts of the 3 papers (500 words each)
  • Key words (5 words)
  • Names of presenters (may include a chair/moderator/discussant)
  • Their affiliations and contacts
  • Technology/facility requirements
2) Paper presentation

A 30-minute presentation. It should include time for questions and change over to the next presenter.

On-line submission:

  • Abstracts of the paper (500 words)
  • Key words (5 words for the panel)
  • Names of presenter(s)
  • Their affiliations and contacts
  • Technology/facility requirements
3) Poster presentation

Poster display of 1.5 hours to which conference participants will visit.

On-line submission:

  • Abstracts of the paper (500 words)
  • Key words (5 words)
  • Names of presenter(s)
  • Their affiliations and contacts
  • Technology/facility requirements

Timeline:

  • Closing Date for proposal submission: February 15th, 2009.
  • Proposals will be refereed.
  • Proposal acceptance notified by: March 15th, 2009.
  • Early Bird Registration closes: April 15th, 2009.
  • All presenters have to be registered.

Refereeing procedures:

  • All proposals (other than invited papers) will be refereed by a panel of experts.
  • Your key words will be used in choosing readers of your proposals.
  • There are a limited number of presentation slots and only accepted papers will be presented.

Abstract submission is via on-line submission system only.

There will be no proceedings of full papers.
